History

1967  Ed & Joyce buy farm after they marry and convert to a hog farm

1972  “lean-to greenhouse” is built attached to the hog farm for plants grown for the summer garden.

1975  First greenhouse is built after word-of-mouth spreads that we are growing plants

1985   Farm was finally named “Pork & Plants” to cover both the greenhouse business and the family farm

1986   Greenhouse moved to the current site

Installed first ebb and flow benches

1996  Current retail greenhouse was built

1997  Eric returns to the farm

1998  Began using Daniels Liquid Fertilizer throughout greenhouse production

2002  Old production greenhouses dismantled to construct new 1.3 acre open air greenhouse range and collect rain water runoff in 65,000 gallon underground tanks.

2005 (or 6)  Eric purchases original Red Wattle Hog breeding stock which is the basis for Pork & Plants Heritage Farm

2007  Maria returns to the business so Eric can devote more time to Heritage Farm

2008 Won Greenhouse Product News Sustainability Progress Award

   Featured in USA Today

           Replaced plastic pots with 100% biodegradable pots

2009  Converted heating systems over to burning pellets produced on the farm made from prairie grass & wood product

   Farm is certified organic

2011  Named Revolutionary 100 Garden Center in US

  Began selling Red Wattle Pork cuts through greenhouse

2013  Named Revolutionary 100 Garden Center in US

2014  Named Revolutionary 100 Garden Center in US
